I sold an item on eBay for 83.75 and was charged a fee of $3.99. This is more than 2.9% + $0.30. Can someone help explain? Thanks!

Was there a currency exchange involved?

Where are you seeing that fee? Are you sure it's not a combination of PayPal and eBay fee?

Here is a screenshot of the transaction:

As far as I can tell the only fee from eBay is separate and will be 10% of the final sale.

Hmmm...I'm not sure. I'll be curious to see what others have to say about this one.

Are you seeing this with all your eBay sales or just this one? There must be something unique going on here to increase that fee for some reason.

Amex charges higher rates if you process them directly, but this is still higher than what that would be. Sorry, not sure. Somebody else can help, hopefully.

This is my first sale on eBay in several years, so I'm not sure...
