$0.99 fee for sending money to friend from U.S. to Canada?

Hi, I have been sending money to my friend in Canada in the past years from the U.S.  Today I found there's now a $0.99 fee for that, and no fee if I send within the U.S.

Since when is this new fee started?  Isn't paypal making enough money with the exchange rate already?

Cross border fees have always applied.

No, the fee was not there before.  I have been sending 50 CAD to a friend every year for a fantasy basketball pool, there was no fee charged every year until this year.

I thought it was 1.99,may be Canada is cheaper.

sending to a different country ,you pay a fee,the last time I looked at fee schedule ,it is $1.99

0.99 to Canada using bank or paypal fund,up to 49.99.max is 2.99

so it is cheaper to Canada
