adding a debit card

I made a paypal account in the past, but I closed it. I’m trying to add my card to my new account, but it says the card is already in use, and I can’t add it. It doesn’t make sense because I closed the other account, so my card shouldn’t be in use, right?

Did you remove the card from the old account (as they tell you to do in the warning message) BEFORE you closed your account?

If not then it will still be linked to that closed account and you would need customer services to help you regain access.
