Summary shows money received, zero in balance

I received money from a friend.  It initially showed in my balance.  I went to check 30 minutes later, and my balance was zero, even though the sent money amount is still showing in the activity section. What is the deal!?

Did you buy anything in that time frame and paypal used the funds in your balance to pay for it?

Yes, you hit the nail on the head.   I had a purchase pending from a few days prior.

The only way I found out was from a notification from PayPal.  However, there was nothing (indicating that to be the case,)  in my summary or activity section. 🤔
