Money received - pending

My husband deposited a check into his account Monday afternoon and then sent me half via PayPal on Monday evening. It still says "pending" 36 hours later. Why would that be?

How did he send it, ie which paypal option?

Is it pending on your paypal account or both paypal accounts and is there a clearance date?
