Money pending scam

Hi all

i sold a phone on eBay tonight and money has been paid into my PayPal account but it’s under pending account. It’s for over £1000 and from what I understand the buyer has to receive the phone befriended money will be released! Is this correct. 

What comeback will I have if it turns out  to be a scam. I lost £600 2-3 years ago from a scam where the phone was signed for but the ‘buyer’ Said they hadn’t authorised the payment so they got the phone for nothing.

If you see a record of payment in your account under a PayPal 21-day Hold, you have been paid and have to do the following to have the funds released sooner:

 

Sellers/recipients do this to get money sooner (may not be available for some countries):

 

 1. Click Activity at the top of the page.

 2. Find and click the original payment for the item or service.

 3. Click Add Tracking Info.

 4. Select an Order Status: Shipped (add tracking number if available).

 

Note: Funds are released 24/48 hrs from delivery confirmation with courier by PayPal, if tracking info is provided in the transaction.

 

Then/or ask buyers/senders to “confirm receipt” to release funds (may not be available for some countries):

 

 1. Log on to PayPal account.

 2. Click Activity at the top of the page.

 3. Find and click the payment transaction.

 4. Click Confirm Receipt.

 5. Click Yes to confirm that you received the order.

 

***Not all transactions require receipt confirmation.

 

If buyer does not take action to confirm you may have to wait up to 21 days for PayPal to release the funds if no tracking info was provided. Otherwise, contact customer service and ask them to manually confirm delivery and release funds should there be a delay in confirming tracking info by PayPal. Please allow 24/48 hrs for request to process:

 

  1. Log on.
  2. Click HELP at the top menu.
  3. Scroll down and click CONTACT US.
  4. Scroll down to click CALL US or other contact options.

HOWEVER, if you do not see a record of payment in your PayPal account, then you have not been paid and was perhaps tricked with a spoofed eBay or PayPal email into shipping out the phone without the buyer paying.  Check the email header of the payment confirmation email to see if it is authentic or forward it to spoof@paypal.com

 

Keep in mind, PayPal or eBay never asks for tracking info before you receive/see payment in your account. Even if PayPal or eBay puts a hold on the funds, you should still see a record of payment in your PayPal account.

If you were tricked into shipping without receiving payment, then the only thing you can do is recall the package from your courier if at all possible, right away. Otherwise, there is not much else PayPal can do since no payment was sent or contact customer service to ask if there was an incoming payment but not showing up for some reason:

Thank you for the reply. Buyers feedback (6) but nothing in last 12 months and address to be shipped to looks suspicious. Am I covered if they say they haven’t received it as last time I sold a phone for £600 a few years ago, the ‘person’ said they hadn’t authorised payment so their money was returned to them and I lost the phone as Royal Mail said it was signed for although signature was in legible and no one of that name lived there.
