How does PayPal convert my balance to another concurrency when paying a friend?

I’m paying for a service with money in my balance that was transferred from a card. However, does PayPal charge my bank if I need to change currencies?

If you are funding an international payment via funds in your balance then they have to be in the correct currency.

If you fund it from your bank account or card then you can pay in their currency and it will be converted for you.
