Card Number Isn't Recognised

I recently moved home and tried to update my billing address, which failed. As a step I then removed my card completely and tried to add it again a few days later, which is now failing with advice that my card number isn't recognised. I called PayPal and was told 'wait a few days and try again', tried again and it still gives me the same error, can anyone offer any advice?? I checked with my bank and there are no restrictions on the card, it has an active balance so no issues that end.
