email username domain was cancelled, can't reset password

My friend's email was hosted by godaddy and he cancelled the email domain with them.  But now he lost his paypal password so they send the reset link to an email address that no longer exists.  He has money in the account he wants to access.  What can he do?

As you can have up to 8 email addresses on the one Paypal account why did he not add another first and confirm it before losing the old email address?

Would need to contact customer services now for help.
