Unwanted automatic payments

A number of merchants are setting themselves up as automatic payees without my knowledge or permission. Perhaps this authorization is buried within a contract of adhesion for a single purchase, but it is not appropriate either for the merchant to set up or for PayPal to permit without specific authorization. How can I prevent it?

Click on the profile tab (icon next to log out) > Click on payments third option along on the thick blue band top of page > "manage pre-approved payments''.

That page lets me eliminate payees who may be paid automatically, but it does not let me prevent payees from appearing on that list.  If I make a one-time purchase, the vendor has no right to automatic payments, yet some one-time vendors appear there.  That's what I want to prevent.  I should not need to monitor that page after every transfer.

Then be careful who you purchase from and read the small print before you buy?

Paypal can't block companies that you have agreed to set up a subscription with IF that is what it says in the companies small print and you unwittingly agreed to it.
