Trouble login into account with 'Authentication' required

I'm struggling to log into my account. I see a message saying authentication is required, however the phone number listed is no longer in use. I can't see anyway to update this without logging in first? Tried calling Paypal but just keep getting cut off. Hoping someone has some advice?

I can't login either - "have us call you" but this is an old number so I can't "have paypal call me".

Tried to speak to them online I provided security details they asked for and they told me they still can't help  - and that I have to set up a new account.

I asked for customer services number they gave me one that was dead.

Asked what would happen to the money in my Paypal account they said I could get my money and see transactions when I accessed they account - even though they won't let me access this account.
