Security issues

Hi there, can anyone pls explain to me why i have been getting e-mails from Paypal “team-support” saying that they have noticed some unusual activity & potential unauthorised access on my account, so they have limited my account for security reasons until i verify by clicking on a link below to verify my account info. I tried clicking on that link once before & it just lead me to an error page? So now im scared to do it again cause it might be a scam. Whenever i log into my Paypal account it seems ok & i have no warning messages regarding this kind of issue. This is the 3rd time I’ve received this kind of email & im not sure if its legit from Paypal. What to do??

Yep sounds like a typical spoof so NEVER USE ANY LINK.

Firstly if the email/text addressed you as ''Dear Member'' / ''Customer'' / ''Client'' OR your ''email address'' then that confirms its a spoof as paypal would address you by your full name eg Dear John Smith.

Secondly if there was a link OR attachment in that email/text to ''cancel'' any transaction or ''confirm'' any details then again it would be a spoof.

If there was a problem with your account Paypal would not ask you to click on an unsafe link in an email or by downloading an attachment, they would direct you to log in normally and go to the resolution or the message centre for more information.

Thanks so much for replying. Yes, the email only addressed me by my email address & not by full name, so its really doubtful. I have messaged the customer service about this & im still awaiting their reply.

If it was addressed to your email address then its 100% spoof.

You don't need to contact customer services just forward it to spoof@paypal.com for confirmation if you don't think my advice was enough.
