Payment sent from buyer to wrong email address

A person sent me money but to the wrong email which i had not added to my current PP account and now i want to add this email in question to claim the money but when i try adding, it says its already linked to another user ! I received confirmation in that email already , Is there a way to resolve this issue or should i wait 30 days for it to be unclaimed and returned to the sender ?
