I'm a little confused; I had an email about needing to check my phone number so you can SMS me. But I already have TOTP set up in Google Authenticator, which is more secure than SMS.
Is it possible to configure my settings to use TOTP in preference to SMS?
PayPal dosn't send me 6-digit Code to my mobile phone! Hi. I am Ebay seller. Last login to PayPal was 3th September. All was ok but yesterday I can't login into my account. I have 2 step verification by sending to me 6 - digit code to my phone. I use it more that 10 year's in real life and in PayPal. I am from Latvia and I read that PayPal have some PSD2 ( or whatewer) new verification system. I need access to my PayPal account because we are company and sell a lot of item on Ebay. We can't work. My employee's use PayPal every day! I ask help on Twitter and Facebook but all I've got is absolute ignore! I can't even imagine how much money I pay to PayPal in fees and when I need help I don't get it!! I just need to access to my acount. I wrote from new PayPal account because I can't contact with any of Paypal support without it! Please tell me what's happening and how can I get to my accsess to my acount back! Regards.
Hi, I been asked for a call or text to a landline number of mine that's no longer in use, when I request an alternative method it doesn't want to send a verification code to my registered email address but to a backup one (which is a gmail one I created on a whim) and cannot for the life of me remember the password.
How can I access my account as to contact Paypal its asking me to login, but I cannot login?
So, is anything actually happening with this? Given when the topic was started I'm going to say no.
The 'answer' of you need SMS to login is pretty pathetic and not really an answer to these concerns. It's laughable that they state security is a high concern, yet only supply SMS as an option. I'm all for two-factor authentication but options need to be provided, not just one being forced. While it's fair to say that the majority of people will have a mobile, that doesn't account for those that don't, don't need or can't use a mobile. So why bother with the minority when you have the majority, right?
Can the people in power please do something about this. Your own words even say "One such measure...." One. Which means there are others. You've had more than enough time to implement other factors and there really is no excuse for not doing it, aside from sheer stubborness. If other financial related companies can do it and still be secure, then so can you.
Please do something about this.
I have the same problem. Cannot login to account, and cannot get a person in call service because of covid19. This is very bad. Dont know what to do....
I'm another victim of inactive phone number and PSD2 compliance. Seriously, does anybody at PayPal even bother to check what they do?
There should be already a proper solution in 'Common Questions' or an option allowing to change it by myself while calling help line.
But there is NONE! And the most hilarious fact is you require your customer to log in to get any help or even register Twitter or FB account.
I'm PayPal customer not Twitter's nor Facebook's and I don't want 3rd party to involve.
tl;dr; Do something about it already, would you?
The number on my account is an old one so have no access to it Have tried customer services and that is a joke automated voice says 'can't help log into your account' which I can't do as the number is incorrect. As I use Paypal daily this is really affecting me
I also do not use a mobile due to total lack of usable service where I spend the vast majority of my time so I agree with all previous comments stating that SMS now being mandatory in order to use Paypal is a complete nonsense.
My (very limited and uneducated !) understanding is that the Directive and/or UK Legislation specifically addresses the problem of customers with no phone access by requiring that an alternative solution must also be provided. Anyone know for sure and, more to the point, know how to raise this Paypal stupidity and apparent non-compliance with the appropriate regulatory body ? Companies various just assuming "everyone has a mobile in use 24/7" and making these kind of changes need to be seriously challenged and forced to stop knowingly preventing some customers from accessing services just to make life easy for themselves.
I can also confirm that attempting to raise the issue and find a solution with Customer (lack of) Support is a complete waste of time having tried ages ago and again recently. Soon it will no doubt be totally impossible for me to even contact Customer (lack of) Support due to not being able to get around the "you must have a working mobile phone in order to access Paypal" problem.
I somehow suspect that Paypal have this well covered mind you. Their Ts&Cs are no doubt carefully written along with the business registration being in an 'appropriate' location for minimising any tax payments and all compliance issues 😉 It seems pretty clear they just don't care that's for sure. Blame someone else for the problem and just ignore those customers being affected 😞
I am unable to login as the phone number attached to my account is a defunct landline that was scrapped 3 years ago. How can I log in and access the funds that have just been sent to me? This is beyond a joke !!!!
Is there a way I can provide a new phone number to which the code would be sent so I can log into my PayPal account?
