Lost account after changing email

I changed the email of one of my paypal accounts and the address I set it to ended up already having a really old account with my name linked to it. I closed that account, but now I can't access the account with the changed email. It says there is no account made with the address I set it to possibly because I deleted the older account with that email address. Neither the new or old email work.

When you added the email address, did you confirm it? Did PayPal email you to confirm it? Can you log on to the account with another email address linked to the account?

when I changed the email I never got a link to confirm it. I just did it while logged in paypal. I can't log in with the email I set it to or the original. Probably because I removed the original as a linked address.
