I keep receiving messages with links

I keep getting messages from PayPal with the subject "Confirm your info to keep a PayPal balance."

I am flustered because the message is littered with links and remote content. I NEVER follow links in unsolicited email messages. I don't let my email client display remote images unless I have to. How can I know I can trust any message? It's just a bad practice -- it could resemble an actual PayPal message in every way.

I presume THIS message may actually come from PayPal, but when I get to the site, my preferred action (just issue payment) seems to have no action associated with it, so I have gotten this message two or three times now.

I find this message frustrating -- I don't tend to use PayPal for payments, so the situation they describe hasn't come up much. I think I had a couple of refunds, but they just hung around until I used PayPal next. I don't see how to make this message stop.

If its a spoof, DO NOT USE ANY LINK.

Firstly if the email/ text addressed you as ''Dear Member'' / ''Customer'' / ''Client'' OR your ''email address'' then that confirms its a spoof as paypal would address you by your full name eg Dear John Smith.

Secondly if there was a link OR attachment in that email link to ''cancel'' any transaction or ''confirm'' any details then again it would be a spoof.

If there was a problem with your account Paypal would not ask you to click on an unsafe link in an email or by downloading an attachment, they would direct you to log in normally and go to the resolution or the message centre for more information.

Thank you for your response! The message appears to be from PayPal, and it is asking me to click a link to "confirm your info here" which includes a link to https://epl.paypal-communication.com/ (plus the rest of a ginormous URL). paypal-communication.com seems to be a domain owned by PayPal, registered through the registrar markmonitor.com.

I am assuming PayPal sent the email, but I don't want to receive it. They should know better than to send messages to folks that include links because it just trains folks to click links in email messages.
