I've been using PayPal for several years now. I wanted to make a patreon payment but it required me to verify my phone number which was already added to my account. It said it had sended me a text message with a verification code. However I did not receive it, not even after trying to resend it many times. So I tried the call options a few times, I never received a call.
I thought, maybe I can download the app and verify from there. So I downloaded the app, logged in, verified that I am not a robot and went to my phone number settings, there it indeed said it was unverified but I couldn't find a way to verify it in the app.
So I'm kind of stuck right now as I have ran out of ideas to confirm my phone number. And yes, my phone number is correct :).
