evidently there are several variations of this problem with contact updates, although none of the solutions offered seem to address my particular issue... after several attempts to add my current phone I was finally able to do so, then same with removing the old phone, seemingly... but while I was able to designate, again after many tries, the new phone as the primary, the old phone is still listed among my contacts... furthermore, it is still the number that's listed when prompted to send the confirmation code for a bank transfer... a link to change the number appears but doesn't work when I enter the new number (even though I was finally able to make it the primary)... of course PayPal has no live support, so perhaps after several more attempts the new number will finally appear...
