IPN, Can I change the URL?

I recently set up my IPN. All was good but when a friend of mine tried to go through the process, nothing happened. I found out that I had a wrong letter in the URL, so I changed it.
PayPal system is still saying "retrying" when sending message. When I look at that particular transaction, the wrong URL is still there. (I changed the URL for the button settings).
My question is, since I changed the URL and it's correct now, when PayPal retries it again, will it be to the correct URL or will it still be to the wrong one because the pay part of the transaction is completed?
If they continue to retry to the wrong URL, how do I change it for that particular transaction?
