Recurring billing with Credit Card doesn't work

Here's my situation:

1. Got a WP membership site
2. using a plugin called PaidMembershipPro
3. I added paypal express as the payment gateaway
4. When customers try to subscribe to my recurring plans, they only see the option to pay with paypal, not credit card
5. I've confirmed with PaidMembershipPro that recurring billing with credit cards through paypal works on their platform

Is there a setting I'm missing? Something I need to do to enable CC payments for recurring plans?
