Paypal here chip and swipe reader not recognized by ipad mini

I have no issues connecting my paypal here chip and swipe reader (I own 4 of them) to my samsung android phone.  But I need to connect it to some tablets.  The first is an ipad mini running iOS 11.3.1 and in bluetooth search mode it does not recognize ANY of the paypal readers as a bluetooth advice.  I made sure to unpair and forget all of the devices with my samsung first and still no luck.  I'm sure someone else has had this issue.  Can you help?

Have you tried a soft reset ?

A soft reset deletes any temporary files that may be causing the issue.

1. From the home screen, press and hold the Power key and the Home key.
2. Release the Power key and the Home key when the Apple logo appears.

yes - that was my first step.  tried a soft and hard reset.  No ipads recognize these readers.
