I want to add a donation button on a website so people can donate to a friend. I need the paypal email to be hidden (he’s quite well known so wants his email kept private) ... or should I make up a new account for him then transfer funds from there to his PayPal account? Would this incur further fees?

Please don't go "making up" accounts for anyone. PayPal accounts have to be verifiable with real info or funds will get locked up. You can open a personal account if you do not have one and set up a money pool:
But donors have to have a PayPal account to give to the money pool.
Once you close the pool and transfer the funds to your PayPal balance, you can send it to your friend.
Or make a donation button where funds will go to your created pp personal account or go to your existing pp business acct and you can forward the funds to your friend.
Kudos & Solved are greatly appreciated. 🙂
