Apologies if this is a stupid question, but I find no way to report technical issues on Paypal website.
I have created two donation buttons via Paypal. They are called from an html web page.
<form action="https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr" method="post" target="_top">
<input type="hidden" name="cmd" value="_s-xclick">
<input type="hidden" name="hosted_button_id" value="xxxx">
<input type="image" src="https://www.paypalobjects.com/en_GB/i/btn/btn_donate_LG.gif" border="0" name="submit" alt="PayPal – The safer, easier way to pay online!">
<img alt="" border="0" src="https://www.paypalobjects.com/en_GB/i/scr/pixel.gif" width="1" height="1">
Within the saved button I set some variables (the only thing that is different between the two)
Both call forms to call at end of / cancellation of transaction - these are not HTTPS (as they just say 'thank-you').
All of this works fine on on Safari and Mozilla Firefox.
On Google Chrome (Version 67.0.3396.99 (Official Build) (64-bit) and Internet Explorer (11.0.65) (latest versions) when I try to donate via credit card I get past the 'Am I a robot' put in all the details and accept cookies but when I click to donate I get
Something went wrong
We're sorry your first try didn't work out. This could just be a temporary glitch.
If you click on the button to tray again, you just get back to the error form.
I cleared everything using CCleaner and got this to work on Chrome, but when I then tried on IE the same issue happens again.
I re-created the button today (as there are a bunch of changes coming in I notice from July 2018)
Cleared the cache on IE, Same problem.
And then when I tried on Chrome again, same error (even after clearing Chrome cache).
A potential donor reported this issue ... so it seems at present we can only take donations via Safari and Mozilla.
Given the number of folks with IE and Chrome this is a real pain.
Is this likely to be my call to Http not https thank-you forms? - seems a bit daft if so, but its the only thing I can think of...
Is anyone else having this issue and does anyone know how to fix it from the charity side (as obviously I can't ask donors to fix their software 🙂
Thanks to anyone who can assist.
You can contact Tech Support here, at the bottom of the page, there's a link "Contact Support", on the next page you can login and then complete the support form and submit.
Thanks for the link - I will be reporting it to Paypal.
Meanwhile, a workaround in case anyone else has the problem.
The code called by the Donation button appears to vary by browser e.g on Chrome Address County is mandatory and you have to enter the credit card type on IE the card type defaults from the card number and the County is optional. (or vice versa, my head is spinning from all the testing).
If on your donation button you set Advanced variables / Take customers to this URL when they finish checkout, then it will work in Mozilla Firefox and Safari but it will crash on IE and Chrome.
Changing your return URL to https makes no difference.
Remove the Advanced variables / Take customers to this URL when they finish checkout and it will work on all browsers.
(set your default return URL in your account profile).
