Customer is not receiving an email showing payment

I did a test purchase from myself, acting as a customer. The payment went through. My business received payment, but the customer did not receive a notification that the purchase was made. Also, when the business refunded the payment, the customer did not receive an email stating a refund was issued.
The business did receive an email that a purchase was made.
