Cancel auto renew subscription with paypal API

Good morning,

I am creating an app with a subscription system and I would like my users to be able to cancel their subscription easily. I know that the paypal API provides some routes to cancel or suspend subscriptions. However, I would like to be able to set auto_renewal to false when they want to stop their subscription instead of stopping it immediately because it would keep their subscription status to active for the current period (they have already paid for the current month...). Is this possible ?

Are there any answers for this? The documentation says that the auto_renewal field is deprecated, what is the correct way to stop a subscription from recurring while keeping the status active through the current cycle using the API? The docs are essentially useless.
