Can't I just add the shipping price to the retail price and pass it off as "free shipping"?

I sell pictures of art that come in four different sizes. That’s four different prices, which also means four different shipping prices. If I use the Dropdown With Price Option button, the shipping prices will remain the same for each option. I could just create a stand-alone button for each option, but that would be too cumbersome (too many products multiplied by too many options). I decided it would be better to add the shipping price directly to the retail price and just pass it off as “free shipping”. My question is: what’s the catch if I decided to add the shipping price directly to the retail price rather than make the shipping price separate? What am I missing here?
