hi all!
I sell items on FB marketplace. One of my items is not eligble for purchase using the FB marketplace transaction system (item is over $500). I was contacted by someone out of state who was interested in the item and asked that I ship to them. I've never shipped on FB marketplace and so was advised by the buyer to use PayPal. Have other sellers used this as a safe methodof payment? As a seller of a high-end item, I want to protect myself from fraud.
Any help is most appreciated!

I have been receiving and sending money with PP for some years now. I find its a great tool to use. What I would suggest to you is figure out what the shipping costs is, include that in your asking price and the purchaser will then pay you using PP. Make sure the description is very accurate especially on a high ticket item like that. Keep all records, screen shots, and so on. You don't want the purchaser to file a claim stating that the item is significantly not as described. Good luck.

Really?? Not a scam then which it sounds like to me as its a high priced item and the ''buyer'' is asking for paypal to be used??
BE CAREFUL MAY BE THIS SCAM.
They encourage you to accept a direct Paypal payment and may ask you to send the item internationally.
No funds or activity of the transaction shows in your Paypal account and any emails may go into your junk/spam folders.
You will get/got a "fake" email that looks as though it is from paypal.....it isn't because they don't have a Paypal account and have no intention of paying you.
It will say the buyer has paid ...you won't have been paid.
They will tell you that the payment is released when you provide paypal with a tracking/shipping number......this won't happen.
Paypal NEVER tell you to send an item before the payment is showing in your paypal account.
Paypal do not tell you to send trackable, they advise it for selling protection but it is not compulsory.
Delete any emails and ignore the scammers.
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.

I too have used Paypal to receive very large sums but I have a Business account I don't know if that makes a difference. And I have been with Paypal for over 8 years.
