Phone number changed - can't log in

My mobile number changed a few years ago but I never updated my profile.

Now I can't log in as Paypal wants to send me a text on the old number to verify the account.

I've tried logging in from a different browser which doesn't work.

Also tried using the Help Chat system, but this also requires me to log in to proceed.

Tried ringing the help support number but spent ages going round and round in circles with the automated options, could not get to a point of speaking to an actual person.

Funny thing is, when I selected 'Ask the Community' to access this forum, it allowed me to log in to create this profile to do this!

Really stuck as to how to resolve. Would really appreciate if anyone can offer some help with this please?

Today my wife interrupted my work to ask me for help: - ***** Paypal!!!, she started, is now asking me to enter the code I received on my mobile phone. The problem is that I am not receiving anything. The alternative is to receive a call, which is also not happening. When seeking help, they tell me to LOG IN and change my mobile number (great!). When I try to contact them, they ask me to LOG IN to talk to someone (amazing!) Between insults and swear words, unusual for my lady, I figured out what the problem should be (I'm head of UX, for context). And the problem is you, really.

You and all companies that do not protect users from their own mistakes, one of the most basic usability heuristics. Allow me to explain: My wife put in her mobile number from Portugal but did not change the area code (we have been living in Switzerland for some years). So far, her mistake. Where you have failed is to VERIFY and VALIDATE the mobile phone number, especially when you are going to use it as the ONLY means of authentication. The cherry on the top of the cake: after I accidentally managed to get to the chat with you (huge puzzle), the indifference of the person who handled the matter to my complaint and comments, was astounding. It solved the problem but left me with a bitter taste of "I don't give a damn what you say". I don't want to make trouble for anyone, but a simple "Thank you for your comment, we will report your issue to the product team" or similar would not have gone amiss. The answer was just "Thank you, if I can't help you any further I will close such and such".

Hello,

I believe I last logged into PayPal several years ago. I have just tried to buy something from a retailer that only accepts PayPal as a method of payment.

I logged in and then it said it wants to confirm my identity. It sent a code to a phone number that no longer exists. Yes I know I should have updated it, but in my defence I was unaware this phone confirmation system was in place on my account.

Now here is where it gets complicated. The only method of contact offered on the help page is via telephone (speaking/listening, not SMS), which I can’t use due to disability.

Is there any other way to contact the support team? I just need the phone number changed to my current number (or removed entirely).

Many thanks.

hello @Ummat1

the security procedure by mobile and the code received is compulsory.

he answer to your question is present many times on the subject

sim card lost or not, without valid mobile number, you need to contact paypal customer service.

Due to the fact that you do not have access to your old phone number, you will need to contact our telephone support team.

Please go to the PayPal home page and
1. Go to the Contact Us page: https://www.paypal.com - contact us
2. Select Password and account access
3. Select Connection issues

or

during working days and hours of operation

by messaging from paypal, by phone, and also on Facebook and Twitter (PayPal customer service is present above)

on paypal:

- at the bottom of the Help And Contact page

then at the bottom of the page that opens "contact us" (on the right) and finally, still at the bottom right: "call us"

I know Paypal email, I know Paypal password. But when I try to log in, it says that need to confirm, that its me, cause I'm never logged in from this device. It wants to send code to my phone number, but I don't have that number and email adress not confirmed. What I need to do? How can I log in into my account?

If you go to the 'Help & Contact' icon on the PayPal website. Then if you click the 'Contact Us' link at the bottom of the page. From here, if you click the 'Password and Account Access' option, then 'Login Problems'. On the next page, you will see a 'Call Us' option. You do not need to be logged in to use this feature.

Do you have a mobile (not landline) phone issued in your country and registered in just your name verified on your Paypal account?
Paypal are using mobile phones for i.d requirements for logging in and withdrawal funds for extra security measures.
