Why does paypal no longer require my password to login?
No password is now needed login to my account, just a SMS code sent to a cell phone.
Huge lack of security here!
Is there some way to disable SMS ONLY logins to insure anyone logging in also has the correct password? I can not find a setting for this.
If your cell is lost OR with ID theft your cell number is slammed to a different sim card paypal becomes wide open. Crazy to me.

I totally agree. I have a password and security questions for a reason, and that reason is to never use 2-factor authentication. 2-factor makes sense if you are in your own home in your own country, logging into devices you've had for years, or have easy access to other devices, but if the security system denies me the opportunity to use my own account to pay for something when I am alone, far from home, traveling in another country, then that is a failure in the opposite direction. Now that they insist that my password and security questions are not enough, I can no longer rely on PayPal when I am traveling or away from home: the place I need it most.
