Additional details:
- As far as I know, the old address should no longer be on my PayPal account.
- The old address is PO Box.
- The old address is not stored in my browser, nor in my password manager.
- I updated my address list (on https://www.paypal.com/myaccount/profile/) after it first happened.
- I couldn't actually find it in this list when I went to update it.
- The list now only shows one address (Primary) which is my current residential address.
- I have no recollection of adding the old address with the merchant.
- I had to correct it after it happened
- It happened a second time on the same merchant website after updating everything.
Is there a specific section in my PayPal settings where I can set my address for Checkout With PayPal?

When you enter an address during checkout on a merchant's website it can get retained as a hidden address on your PayPal account.
Hidden addresses may later show up in another merchant's checkout as an option. To get an address removed would require contacting customer services.
State it's a hidden address and an agent can remove it for you.
Contact options for each countries Paypal customer services are accessed by clicking help/contact bottom left of Paypal pages.
1. Paypal phones (you can use the guest option if you can't log in).
2. Live chat is also randomly available.
3. You can send them a message, (during business hours you may also be able to message whilst logged out).
4. Have you considered contacting Customer Service via Facebook or Twitter?
You can send them a private direct message via Social Media on Facebook, Twitter/X, or Instagram pages.
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.

Paypal uses a checkout address list that is not available anywhere in the settings.
It is only available during checkout.
It has its pros and cons.
The con is that it is difficult to become aware of this discrepancy.
The pro is that in the hidden list it is possible to create addresses in different countries.
The checkout address edit feature also has the use this as default checkbox.
To avoid problems with PayPal using old address is to edit the address during the checkout, select good address or create a new one, check the use as default checkbox.
Old addresses can not be removed. Which is also good. Because it happened that PayPal did not allow me to add USA address in English account but I had one US address saved from the times it did allow it.
