Creating Paypal account

I live in South Africa, PayPal is asking for a US account number which I don't have. What must I do so that I can activate my PayPal account:

To verify your account try adding and confirming a visa credit card.

You can however in most countries add a U.S bank account (not card) to your paypal account. This is because paypal is a U.S company and allows that option for U.S Paypal account holders working in other countries.
