Hi all, I want to close my account but it does not let me. I have no financial information linked to my account. 

How do i proceed to close my account if it does not let me even though I am not allowed to use PayPal anymore. I have gone against the guidelines apparently.

I want to close my PayPal account.

I am trying to go trough mage of automatic answers but ...I am lost.

I have been trying to close my account for 2 days no money no limits no holds nothing, BUT they say I still have a paypal credit account which paypal credit says is closed.  I cannot log onto paypal credit and paypal credit cannot see my account.  I wanted to do a 3 way call to  verify the issue but paypal says they cannot do that?

I wanted to close my account because Paypal started pestering me with they need more info for my account otherwise I wouldnt be able to transfer or deposit money after 2nd Jan 2022.  I decided to close my account.

 

It turns out I couldnt close my account or remove my bank account until i had removed all the linked account from my Paypal.  i couldnt find these but after a few messages back and forth they advised 

 

I have active billing agreements on my account so you can not remove the bank account until you cancel the billing agreements associated with this account. So, kindly follow the below steps to remove the billing agreements and remove the bank account so after that you will be able to close your account.

 

  1. Click Settings at the top of the page.
  2. Click Payments.
  3. Click Manage automatic payments.
  4. Select the merchant's name or email address.
  5. Click Cancel.
  6. Click Cancel Automatic Payments.
  7. Click Done.

I did this and deleted about five existing financial links and then removed the two DD entries for Paypal on my bank account so Paypal were unable to take money for eBay transactions or me make a transfer directly to Paypal account

 

I then tried to remove my bank account from Paypal (Still didn't work) and then close account (still didn't work).  More **bleep** and **bleep** to paypal and I get this message

 

Dear BB UK,

Thank you for contacting PayPal regarding closing your account. There must be no completed transactions sent or received in the past 180 days. In order to close the account. However,  I see recent transactions on your account. In this case, I request you to contact our phone specialist and check if can be close from there end.

Our customer support telephone line is [removed] (freephone from UK landline and mobile. Rates from overseas landlines and mobiles may vary). We're open from 8am to 10pm Monday to Friday, from 8am to 9pm on Saturday and from 9am to 9pm on Sunday.   

I'm sorry to have you call but please be assured that I'm guiding you with the right department where you can have your concern answered.

I havent called Paypal yet but I know i am going to get **bleep** about.  they are **bleep** useless !!!

I can't close my account. This is a predatory practice to keep customers. I have reached out to my assigned Data Officer from EU as per GDPR Article 13, I am entitled to ease of access to have my data erased from their system.

 

Per https://www.paypal.com/ro/smarthelp/article/how-do-i-close-my-paypal-account-faq1215?app=searchAutoC... - I have done everything like it says, the close page gives this error: "Before you close your account… There's something that needs to be resolved. Please contact customer service, and we'll help you with it. "

 

This is outrageous. Customer service is inexistent. There is no live chat like it says it should be, no phone number to me to call which is also a predatory strategy to cling onto customers as in this day and age you should not need to talk to someone on the phone to have an account closed. There is no community post that has a clear indication how to fix.

 

If my account is not closed by Monday, I am going to see an attorney about this. PayPal does not take GDPR seriously and they should be punished for this. Pronto.

Contact options for each countries Paypal customer services are accessed by clicking help/contact bottom left of Paypal pages.

1. Paypal phones when available (you can use the guest option if you can't log in).
2. Live chat is also randomly available.
3. You can send them a message, during business hours you may also be able to message whilst logged out.

4. Have you considered contacting Customer Service via Facebook or Twitter?

The phone number shown doesn't even ring, they must be in panic mode since their little gestapo move

to fine you $2500 dollars out of your account if you expressed an opinion they don't like backfired.

 

Maybe that's why you cant talk to anybody, it tells me I have a pending transaction but when I click

on pending on hold or any other option it shows nothing.

 

I have to agree with the other person it looks like their trying to block you from deleting the account.

Good luck at your attorneys tomorrow as contacting customer services as advised seems beyond your abilities. 😂

 

As for my rubbish posts, the last 50 have garnered 26 kudos from grateful community users + 7 private thank you messages from folks helped and saved from being scammed. As I give up my time to try and help and you think that help is rubbish then feel free to give up your time to help others on here instead? How many have you saved from being scammed? Oh yes, absolutely 0.

 

The ONLY way for you to get your account closed is to contact customer services. No one on a 'user to user' community forum can do anything to help you close it so not sure what advice you wanted? All I could give you was contact information for how to get hold of them, so, you're welcome.
