Problems setting up 2FA properly

I have tried to set up two-factor -authentication but it does not work as expected. I choose to use an authenticator app. (I use Microsoft). Then I also chose SMS as backup. All seems fine and dandy. But when I log in I first have to enter the code from the authenticator app, and then it also says it needs to send me a code on SMS. EVERY TIME!

 

I thought the backup method was for situations like when the primary method doesn't work I can use the secondary method to log in.

 

The way it works for me now is as a three-factor-authentication. Has anybody else experienced this problem, or is it just me?

In this situation, the best thing to do would be to contact our Customer Care department. You can do this by going to the ‘Contact Us’ link at the bottom of every PayPal page. You will then see what contact options are available to you.
