Received an email from paypal : There's an issue with your Tax ID Number". Why would this be sent to me? My social security number is correct on my paypal account and I don't use a Tax ID Number.
If its a spoof??? then NEVER USE ANY LINK OR ANY PHONE NUMBER.
Firstly if the email/text addressed you as ''Dear Member'' / ''Customer'' / ''Client'' OR your ''email address'' then that confirms its a spoof as paypal would address you by your full name eg Dear John Smith.
Secondly if there was a link OR attachment in that email/text to ''cancel'' any transaction or ''confirm'' any details then again it would be a spoof.
Also if they ask you to call the number in the email then it would be fake paypal agents trying to scam you for money to 'fix' something.
If there was a problem with your account Paypal would not ask you to click on an unsafe link in an email / download an attachment OR phone them on a number in an email, they would direct you to log in normally and go to the resolution or the message centre for more information.

I also received an email, presumably from PayPal, indicating that there is an issue with my tax ID number. I thought it was spam but there is a notification on my PayPal home page that says "The Tax ID Number you provided wasn't recognized by the tax authority. Please provide the correct Tax ID Number to meet the new IRS requirement and avoid disruption to your account." I checked my account information, and it looks like my nonprofit EIN number is entered correctly. So I am unsure what to do.
Welcome! It sounds like PayPal may need a bit more information from you or potentially confirm some account information. I'd recommend reaching out to our Customer Support teams by clicking "Contact" at the bottom of any PayPal page to confirm what information may be needed.
Apologies for any inconvenience hit has caused.
