Password reset broken

I have an account to which I have forgotten my password due to irregular use. I have tried time and time again to reset my password through the email recovery system, with 4 different internet browsers, but it doesn't work. I made this new account here just so I could log in and post this in hope that someone from Paypal can either help or do something about the broken site.

1. I request the email to begin the password recovery.

2. I click said link in my email, I get redirected to a page to select a security question.

3. The dropdown box to click on in order to select a question is empty.

4. Because of this, I can not continue to reset my password.

I don't know if I'm the only one to have this problem, but it's very annoying as I direly need to access my account to forward some payments. I can not call customer service because I do not have a house phone and am not willing to pay 50+ bucks to call them on a mobile.

This is very frustrating as I have also sent two emails to Paypal about it and have received no confirmation, and no response. It seems the only way to get any help is by calling and giving them a ton of money while I wait on hold. Customer service through this company is extremely poor. I am not sure how Paypal became the world's number one online transaction medium if they do not handle these small yet crippling problems.

I too am having the same issue with the password reset.

I received the  instructional email in the account that is registered, when I click on the link

it goes to a page "about:blank" even if I copy the link. or try to open it in two different browsers, three if you include "my computer".

I had to create another account so I could post this message too.

when I look at the source code for the email, this is what is there:

"re the owner of the account, and then follow the instructions.</li></ol><p><img border="0" alt="" dfsrc="http://images.paypal.com/en_US/i/btn/btn_org_arrow.gif">&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href="about:blank" target="_blank">Recover your password now</a></p>"

Hi - I also had problems resetting my password.  I followed all of the steps and eventually I was taken to a web site titled "blank page".  I thought I was going to a secure site to get my new password.  I did not know what to do with the "blank page", it made me very nervous, and I decided to close the PayPal website.  I later remembered my password, so I was able to log in here to leave a message.  I am concerned that the "blank page" I received could possibly be corrupted or be a computer virus.  I hope I never forget my password again because I don't think I would have ever received a new password.

It is depressing to see that I am not the only one that this is happening to...especially since no one seems to have found a solution as yet.  I made the phone call, spent over 30 minutes on the phone with customer service. Then they called me back and had me enter in a security code so that I could get another email message to reset my password.  this one sent me to a page that says I have requested an obsolete PayPal page! So, I am right back where I started! (Using my husband's account).

I am having the same problem the source code in my email for the Recover your password link is about:blank. Has anyone found a solution for this? I requested it four times and each email comes through this way.

I had the same problem.  Only way to fix was to call customer service.   They will fix the problem by sending you another e-mail but this one will have a different link.  Customer service rep stayed on the phone until I was able to reset my password.

Hi cvp2editing2 (and everyone else on this thread),

I am a PayPal employee looking into this issue. Thanks for raising it!

We're hearing similar complaints and are trying to narrow down the problem.

It would be helpful if you could tell us:

- Which web browser you use (e.g. Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc).

- Which email service you use. In other words, are you reading the email sent from PayPal in Yahoo! Mail, Gmail, Hotmail, etc?

- If this is consistently happening every time you try to reset your password.

I've had the same problem-About:blank window and can't reset password.  I used paypal a few years ago for a few ebay transactions-and lost interest in ebay because of the way I was treated by a seller.  Because of this, my paypal account fell out of use.  Now I'd like to start making regular contributions to Kiva, but can't get my account working (like others, I'm frustrated that there's no way to email or toll-free from Canada to solve this-and I'm also unwilling to sit for hours on a paid call to make a contribution to charity-I'll find another charity).

I've tried both Mac (OSX) and PC (Windows-Vista) and get the same blank page.  I've tried it on Firefox and Explorer from both machines.

I agree that Paypal seems uninterested in customer service.  You can't get through to a toll-free outside the U.S.  You can't email without logging in (hard to do when the issue is password reset).  You can't even reply to these forums without creating or using a different email address and establishing a temporary account.  I think it's absolutely brilliant that Paypal processes all of Kiva's credit card charges, etc. for free saving Kiva the dollars to use for their excellent work-but I hope it's not the deal with the devil suggested by some of the online forums that claim Paypal's lack of customer service is deliberate as they benefit greatly from money held in accounts they make unaccessible!

Same Story.  E-mail link says about:blank

We've looked at the e-mail through Comcast webmail, and through Outlook  2003 having the same results each time. Tried Using Internet Explorer version 7,  Internet Explorer version 8, Firefox version 3.0
