I used paypal to buy something on ebay, though I did not have a paypal account. I get an email the next day stating that the listing for the product had been removed. When I contacted the seller, he told me that paypal had frozen his account and erased his entire mailing list, and would not be able to refund my money. I don't have a transaction ID number to open a dispute, but I do have the email that confirmed my purchase with the receipt number. How do I open a dispute?

File your dispute throught eBay, there's info in their Help section as to how to proceed.
Sounds like the seller is trying to scam you. No one erases mailing lists, at least no eBay or PayPal.
