Can you buy a paypal reader and use it abroad in europe?

The PayPal card reader is designed to work in the UK.

It badly defeats the object of having it but Paypal confirm it is NOT posible to use it outside of the UK. PAYPAL PLEASE ADVANCE AND MAKE THIS A STANDARD OPTION???
