Have money in wallet, cannot spend without a card attached, why?(Also Paypal got my name wrong)

Basically, title.

A friend transferred money to me but I cannot spend it unless I have a card attached, why?

I don't own a debit OR credit card, nor am I in any position to get one.

Also Paypal got my name wrong. They put Robert as part of my first name when that's my middle name, and now I can't remove it since that's considered a 'major change'.

You can use funds in your paypal balance as long as they are in the correct currency and not pending.

But for some transactions ie digital / virtual or higher risk and at some point anyway Paypal will ask you to add a card to act as a back up funding source and to verify your Paypal account.

Do you know if I can just get a store bought pre-paid Visa, link it to my paypal and be done with it?

I'd like to use the money I have in my account and I'm not too thrilled that I have to spend more money just to spend my existing money.
