My question is why is Wells Fargo Bank showing up in my Paypals gmail account? Is Paypal using Wells Fargo Bank for some transactions?

If you use direct deposit, its a Wells Fargo account do essentially Wells Fargo holds your PayPal balance. And the pass-through FDIC insurance.
