Paypal refund query

I bought an item using the paypal option to checkout - I did not have funds in my own paypal account so it took the funds automatically from my second source, the item was defected and I want to return it, can I still get a refund even through the transaction does not show in my own paypal account but was paid through this option from the debit card on file?

Ask the seller if you can return the item for a refund, if they say yes then send trackable so if they don't refund you can file a dispute.
