Paypal closed my previous account, so I asked them why. They refused to say anything as if I had committed a crime. They told me I need to get a lawyer to file a subpoena. Has anyone ever sent a subpoena to paypal before? I sent a letter to them last week asking why they closed my account. I can't afford a subpoena. I even called local lawyers and none of them even do it.

They can't tell because of security reasons. They don't want people to think of ways around the security because that would negate the purpose of it. That's why you need a court order.
"Our decision about holds, limitations and reserves may be based on confidential criteria that are essential to our management of risk and the protection of PayPal, our customers and/or service providers. We may use proprietary fraud and risk modeling when assessing the risk associated with your PayPal account. "General" description and list of possible restricted activities (which is just a tip of the iceberg):

You may read these lists and think, you didn't do any of these things but you can't claim that what you did in PayPal's eyes didn't specifically or relatedly fit under any of the items on that list that caused account closure. There are tons of things people would do to their accounts they shouldn't be doing and I mean tons! Too many to list, tbh. And people come up with all kinds of arcane contortions to get funds from one place to another. I'd sit flabbergasted. Like have they heard of "laws"? lol
Kudos & Solved are greatly appreciated. 🙂
