Sold item, buyer got exactly what they ordered, and now they are "returning" it for a refund.

Obviously return scams are the most common. I sold an item worth $3000. Buyer received the item, then claimed it was not what they ordered despite it being EXACTLY what was put in the description on eBay.

Paypal will refund the buyer once tracking shows that it's "returned" to me, but the package weight is way off. So they are returning an empty package.

Does PayPal have any sort of protection against return fraud? And what if I never receive the returned item? Is there just a time expiry on shipped returns?

This is a lot of money so I am extremely concerned.

When the case is closed against you, appeal it as “buyer abuse” and explain that an empty envelope was returned or whatever the case may be.

Kudos & Solved are greatly appreciated. 🙂
