Scam!!!

I contacted PayPal customer service through their Facebook page today and I got scammed. I was locked out of my PayPal account because I changed my cell phone number about five months ago. I've been trying to get ahold of someone from PayPal since then. So today the rap had me open a coinbase account explaining that that's the company they use to verify PayPal account information through. I opened a coinbase account, provided some info to the rep from PayPal and then my password and phone number on the coinbase account or changed and now I no longer have access to the account and the PayPal rep has blocked me from messaging PayPal. Do not open a PayPal account!! There's a bunch of fake profiles for PayPal out there and if you message you the wrong one you will get scanned. Also, good luck trying to get ahold of someone who actually works for PayPal because I've been trying for over 5 months and still no luck

Its a SCAM.

It would not be paypal customer services that you called it would be a FAKE number pretending to be paypal customer services.
The number shows up when you use 'google' to find paypals number.

The only way to get the REAL paypal customer services number is via help / contact bottom left of paypal pages and scrolling down past the FAQ to the 'call us' option to phone them....although as you said difficult at the moment due to covid.
If you think about it why would paypal ask you to open another companies account for any paypal issues?

Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.

Oh it was definitely a scam! I have the string of messages to prove it. And a stolen coinbase account with my name and a PayPal email address and phone number. And for your information, I didn't call a phone number. I've tried calling the phone number listed for PayPal many many times over the last five months and it hangs up on me. This was through PayPal's messenger app. That's why I'm letting people know so that they don't message PayPal and make the same mistake that I did because it's a scam! I've even been blocked from commenting on PayPal's Facebook account because I questioned whether it was a scam or not.
