Is there anyway that the scammer can remove a payment once it has shown to be in my account?

well a 'buyer' can open a dispute, suggest you read up on paypal seller protection so you can risk assess your transactions.
It happens. Hit the "Login to Ask the community" button to create a question for the PayPal community.
