I had purchased an item and made payments over two months, received item and did not like it and returned as approved by seller, now they want to make payments back to me in refund as opposed to refunding the whole amount as they have the item and can resell it. Is this legal and fair?

Yes, as they can only use the 'refund' option for each payment made and can't 'refund' more than the amount paid.
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.
