I sold a £10 xbox gift card on ebay and the buyer paid through paypal and I sent the code via email. 2 months later he filed a claim on ebay saying he had not received it but the code had been used. The buyer sent me abusive messages containing insults and threats after I told him he has stolen the item and I refused to give him a refund when the code had been used. Ebay rejected the claim so the buyer has made a claim on paypal. Paypal have said that unless I can provide a tracking number then I basically don't have a leg to stand on and expect me to pay the money back. Obviously I don't have a tracking number because I sent it by email and because it is now 3 months since I sold the item, I had deleted the email a while ago as I regularly delete my sent, junk and deleted emails.
Why should I pay the money back when I have lost out? How can paypal get away with this?
