PayPal scam 12/31/2019

I was contacted by a person to purchase something from me and the entire transaction went just like any normal PayPal transaction until . . . after I shipped the item which was of great expense, I put in the tracking number, waited, refreshed as the buyer instructed and got the message from PayPal that due to the holiday influx, it would take 12 hours or so for their server to catch up and even though I could see the approved payment, I check the address with the police in the buyer's state and was told it was a third party shipper's address and now the buyer has my item and I am out quite a bit of money I needed for my family.  Has anyone experienced this transaction looking and acting just like an actual PayPal transaction?
