Item not received

I recently bought and paid for an item using paypal in July of this year. After not receiving the item I contacted the seller asking where it was. I received no reply so I opened a case in the resolution centre to get my money back. Just received a reply from paypal saying that they have closed the case as they have received proof of postage. At no point have I received the item and I have asked for proof that I have received it. Very disappointed with the way paypal has dealt with this and I would also like to complain about the service I have received. how can they close the case just like that.  Whilst £68.37 is not a large amount of money I feel like I am getting ripped off and getting no help from paypal.
