Is PayPal not safe anymore? Can PayPal be trusted? It seems not.

I'm asking these questions because PayPal is supposed to be one of the most widespread and safest online payment systems. Almost every and each acquaintance of mine used PayPal at last once and they had no issue with it. I’ve heard some bad news in the past years about it so I tried avoiding it as much as possible. Until recently I didn’t even have a PayPal account but seeing how easy, quick and apparently trustable it is I made one to be able to save time on my Ebay orders. Sadly, I couldn’t use it even once and didn’t have a single PayPal transfer since I made my account. Yesterday, about minding it was and I heard my phone notification declaring some payment from my side to Korsit BV. It was weird but I didn’t want to get out of my bed for 26 $. I thought I’ll check it in the morning. Then a minute later I got another notification via SMS that I made another transaction about 66 dollars to Xsolla Inc. Now that was suspicious and I woke my bride because she’d have gotten out of bed anyway seeing how frustrated I’m. I instantly contacted this Xsolla Inc which I never ever heard about and they made sure everything was alright, they said they’ll contact PayPal too and disable my Xsolla account (which I obviously didn’t make or used ever). Then I contacted PayPal about these payments too. I was really worried that PayPal won’t bat an eye because as I was looking for clues what did just happen on my PayPal account seemingly a lot, like 100 people had the exact same issue, with similar or same companies and PayPal didn’t help them, just closed their disputes and they never saw their money again. How could this happen if:

  • You don’t share your data of your account and bank card with anyone.
  • You didn’t make any transactions to the mentioned companies which are supposed to be legit, real and safe ones. I looked up both Xsolla and Korsit and they seem totally legal.
  • PayPal is one of the leading online payment sites, thus should offer maximized security over transactions.

This is just **bleep** insane! Seemingly I was right about PayPal despite all the useful stuff it offered. PayPal isn’t safe or isn’t trustable. I indeed got my money back, because I took action instantly but what about the other hundred people who weren’t that lucky and PayPal didn’t help them? How could this happen in the first place? PayPal seems to have real security gaps or/and threats that shouldn’t be taken lightly. I'm not going to use PayPal anymore. I'll try to remove my account too.

It is dissaponting that my service in a little mexican bank compared to Paypal is more secure to make transactions. What is happening with the US?. Perhaps, chinese or russian, etc. online banking services are rubbing their hands in glee. Hope not.
