How long should I wait to escalate a claim to PayPal?

I filed a claim on PayPal after directly messaging someone about an item I had purchased from them. I'm willing to return the item (a counterfeit item it turns out) to them in exchange for a full refund but they weren't receptive in our direct messages. They have not responded to the claim so I'm wondering how long I should wait until I Escalate it to PayPal. Also when I briefly looked and clicked on the link to escalate things there was no option to upload photos to support my claim. I had the item authenticated (to which it was deemed counterfeit) and have screen shots of that email as well as pictures of the item itself.
